So if you are looking to buy a website domain name or URL from a company the resells the premium ones, GOOD LUCK! The chances are slim and none. You know the drill. You find a good keyword only to see that the .COM has already been taken. A quick glimpse can reveal any number of scenarios. The owner could just be sitting on it. It could be parked for ad money. The domain can be forwarded to another. The could be a good looking powerful site already. Or on the flip side the website can be from ten years ago with nothing new. But the WORST thing that could happen if you are looking to BUY a WEBSITE NAME is when a brokerage or buying service already owns it. I cannot tell you how often this happens. A website brokerage will ask for astronomical fees. I was doing some research for a real estate agent in Florida. His location is Jupiter, FL which is where Tiger Woods has a home and also Celine DEon….yatta yatta. Needless to say the area is competitive. So I found a good looking keyword.
Jupiter Florida Real Estate had over 1300 exact match searcher per month. The competition for this keyword was low. Now all I need was for the domain to be available and I think we would have a winner. So I run a whois search on the owner of the domain.
No Buying This Website Domain Name
Yup say it ain’t so! But it is. This website is owned Proforma Inc. and they are located in the Grand Cayman islands. So for fun I checked out their website. Yup…right there is says Buy a Domain Offers Should Always be Above $10,000. Ridiculous. And if you read on you see they even tell you that if this price is too much then Don’t Buy.
Ok I won’t buy it then. I mean really now. For a cool $7 or so I can buy the same website name but with a .ORG or .NET extension. That’s right, both
Jupiter Florida Real Estate.NET
&
Jupiter Florida Real Estate.ORG
are available. So hmm let me think? Do I want to pay $10k for an ok website, or pay $7 for the same thing? Anywho I have decided that Performa probably operates some suspicious activity besides website name sales!
